Janitorial Service Fails – Coffee Stains in Sinks

Many janitorial service companies do an adequate job of cleaning office buildings.  During the COVID-19 pandemic, attention to detail has become critical, especially in shared common spaces.  For instance, take a wet, white paper towel and rub it in the base of your office sink, especially the sink closest to the coffee pot.  It is very common to find dark stains on the paper towel after testing the sink basin.  These stains are not easy to remove, but a skilled commercial cleaning technician should be looking for these stains and cleaning them every day.  Here are some tips to clean these coffee stains.

Coffee staining often occurs in stainless steel sink basins close to the coffee maker in an office.  Unused coffee is often poured down the drain and often times, the coffee stains dry, making them much more difficult to remove.  Most janitorial service providers simply wipe the basin with a neutral cleaner and allow it to dry.  However, the stains are unlikely to be removed without more effort.

Use a degreaser for tough stains.  Spray the entire basin of the sink with degreaser and allow it to sit for at least 3 minutes.  Do not allow the degreaser to dry on the surface. Next, use the sponge section of a blue scrub pad to scrub the stains.  You should see the base of the sink free from staining in the area you just scrubbed.  Continue this method until the sink is complete.  If staining persists after using the sponge, repeat the process using the scrub portion of the sponge.
