How Often Does Your Office Cleaning Company Clean Bugs?
The next time you enter your office, look up. Have you ever wondered how often does your office cleaning company clean bugs out of your lights? If so, check the scope of work they provided when they bided on your janitorial services. If it isn’t included, ask them to add those to your office cleaning services.
Lady bugs are commonly found in overhead light fixtures, especially during certain seasons. Your commercial cleaning company should be aware of this and should be cleaning these carcasses routinely. Cleaning the carcasses can be as easy as removing the cover and vacuuming the bugs. If some of the bugs land on the flooring below, your janitorial service may be required to sweep and mop the floor below or vacuum if the flooring is carpeted.
Many smaller or inexperienced commercial cleaning companies may be unwilling to provide these services. A ladder is generally required and the overhead lights in the office building may be different in each building. In addition, in older buildings, there may be issues with the clips holding the lights being broken, dry rotted, or simply not installed properly. Many commercial cleaners simply are not prepared to complete this task.
If your office cleaning service does remove dead bugs from your overhead lights, see if they are cleaning the plastic cover that typically separates the lights. If you suspect that the bugs are bed bugs, you may want to hire a pest control company or a bed bug cleaning company. Dusting the bottom of the light cover is simple and can be accomplished with an extension duster, but if the lights are open, vacuuming the dust buildup on the top section of the cover is certainly recommended. Check that the vacuum cleaner cord is long enough to properly reach the top of the light cover. An extension cord may be required if there isn’t a working electrical outlet close to the light. Inspect the extension cord and vacuum cleaner cord to ensure that there are no exposed wires, especially if you are using an aluminum ladder.
Once the vacuuming is complete, there may be lines left on the top of the plastic from the sides of the vacuum cleaner attachment. If you, you may want to use a microfiber cloth to remove the excess dust that wasn’t removed by the vacuum cleaner.
